Including vitamin tablets in your weight loss fitness program is important for your overall wellness.  You will be putting your body through a lot of changes and amping up your activity level for the rest of your life.  This all takes the proper fuel to do so.  Even though this site will give you excellent nutritional guidelines, our busy lives make it very difficult to eat perfectly every single day.  Supplements are a necessity.  In addition to the supplements that improve your workout and recovery cycle, a good quality vitamin supplement will help fill in the little gaps that whole foods and meals-on-the-go cannot.

Now, there are a multitude of vitamin tablet brands and sub-brands available in the marketplace.  If you watch television, you have probably seen some of them advertised.  By and large, these are not the ones that I would recommend for you.  There is nothing wrong with them, mind you.  It's just that active people need something more tailored to the demands that they place on their bodies. 

The vitamin tablets that are specifically designed as sport nutrition supplements are the ones you should be using.  They are available at any sports nutrition store such as GNC or on the various online site like DPS Nutrition and Body Building.com.  There are other places, too.  See what your local mall has or try one of these online sites to save some money. 

The difference between the "national brands" and the sport nutrition brands is the ingredient profile.  The national brands that I have looked at have around 25 vitamins and minerals in a once-per-day tablet.  The sport nutrition brands have roughly the same vitamins and minerals plus they contain a list of micro nutrients and gender-specific ingredients to help support your active body. 

One thing to bear in mind with these extra ingredients is that they don't all fit into one pill in a one-per-day format.  Well, they could, but the pill would be big enough for a horse to swallow.  So, they have us take one pill 3 or 4 times per day (depending on the manufacturer).  They are also more expensive to use for obvious reasons.  However, they will give your body a more complete supporting set of nutrients.  They are totally worth it.


In conclusion, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to give your body what it needs as you make this lifestyle transition.  Proper supplemented nutrition is critical.  Starvation does not work.  You have to feed the machine (your body) the right way.  Take care of it and it will take care of you.
